Thank you, Christine, for sharing your list. I’ve been wanting to process via writing some difficult and emotional experiences for quite some time but have shied away from doing so for various reasons. Reading your list was an “aha moment” for me as I saw with clarity how I could approach my writing: begin with a descriptive list and see where my ideas and thoughts go. Perhaps, then, I can gain momentum to dig deeper as well as enjoy putting pen to paper.

Best wishes for a coming new year filled with contentment, curiosity, and creativity.

I swear, lists are the thing that I go back to when I have trouble writing or articulating what I want to say. It just feels more manageable to throw down some thoughts in a bulleted list. Then I can figure out what to do with it from there. If you try it, I'm curious to hear how it works for you. And happy holidays and happy new year to you!

literally buying your book for a gift for a female athlete family member this year who definitely experienced pre and post title 9 and all the past and current sexism 🔥

Congrats on getting back to your fiction project, and on posting less! I’d so much rather spend time reading Substack essays like yours, and browsing the comments thread, than scrolling Notes, Threads (which I barely use) or Bluesky (I set up an account to lurk but have not posted there; why bother?). I’m still hooked on Instagram though. Cheers to no pain too!

While I am posting less, I'm still scrolling across the the different platforms and it's similarly starting to make me feel not great? I realize that I'm looking for some sort of dopamine hit. Something that I want to pay more attention to in the new year.

Thank you, Sarah, for being here, for all your support. Happy holidays!

1. I love this list. It's inspiring me to try a list as a writing approach on my Substack before the year closes. thank you!

2. I also love the library surprises! There is a wonderful energy created by the unexpected arrival of something you are excited about.

3. Thank you for your book and your writing! I recommend your book at least once a week!

Do it! Lists are the best. For me, they help knock loose all the thoughts rattling around in my head in a way. And thank you for being here and for supporting the book!

#9 — I love binge requesting books from the library and the notification that a book is in. It does sometimes lead to book triage when they all come in at once, but there are worse things :)

#10 — I think I've said it before, but I really enjoyed your book and also loved talking about it with my daughter. And yes, recommending to a friend

hahaha the stress from the sudden barrage of library requests is real! It means a lot to me to know that you talk about the book with your daughter. Really, that's the thing I wanted most from it, that it would lead to conversations with the younger folks in our lives so THANK YOU.
